For many years I had been looking for a private school, where I could be in a spiritual environment and where I know God would use me and manifest his plan in my life. And so I was very close to my guidance counselor in High School and he had spoken to me about Messiah. So without a doubt I prayed for days, weeks and months for God to lead me. I visited the campus various times and then found out after a rigorous process that I had been selected to receive a scholarship. After that day I knew that this was where God wanted me to be and I knew that if I kept my desires in prayer he will always be there to listen. Ruth Lopez, First Year Student, Spanish Education

Join us as we kick off the year in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins next Monday, September 15 through October 15 sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Programs and La Alianza Latina.

The mission of Hispanic Heritage Month is to provide a forum where we can learn about an unspoken history of the U.S. and add a different perspective to the retelling of our past. During the next weeks, we will be having various speakers, films, and cultural celebrations that will help us engage in conversations on the existing realities of Latino communities both in the U.S. and internationally.

Before my junior year of high school, Messiah College was nonexistent to me. I was so set on going to an Ivy League, but God definitely had another plan for me. I had heard of Messiah through one of my best friends, and after considering the importance of growing spiritually during my young adulthood, I decided to apply. Once God answered my prayers and Messiah granted me admission, Messiah did not stop there. My admissions advisor at Messiah held contact with me throughout all of the scholarship deadlines and college decisions I had to make my senior year. After every visit and interview I had at Messiah, I felt an even greater sanction that Messiah was to be my home for my undergraduate studies. God showed me that Messiah was the real deal when Messiah granted me another scholarship to study there.

Messiah College has been selected to host The Compassion Forum, an unprecedented bipartisan presidential candidate forum dedicated to discussing pressing moral issues that bridge ideological divides within our nation. Senator Hillary Clinton has accepted the invitation to participate in the Forum; invitations are actively being considered by Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama. The Compassion Forum is scheduled for the evening of Sunday, April 13, in Brubaker Auditorium, and will be covered by mainstream media and religious media outlets alike—including the Church Communication Network (CCN), which will broadcast the event to tens of thousands of people of faith in at least 1,000 congregations nationwide on April 20, the Sunday evening before the Pennsylvania primary.

Now more than ever, Americans motivated by faith are bridging ideological divides to address domestic and international poverty, global AIDS, climate change, genocide in Darfur, and human rights and torture. The Compassion Forum will provide the opportunity for candidates to discuss how their faith and moral convictions bear on their positions on these important issues.
