Too Long

I can’t believe I haven’t made a post here in a month!  I promise it wasn’t my intention of letting things go around here.  I will be making regular posts as often as possible.

On my last post I received a comment from Hillary Snyder who asked:

“As an upperclassman, can you give any advice to the soon-to-be freshmen? Is there anything you wish you had known about Messiah before you entered? Any dos or donts or warnings?”

To be honest, this is a pretty tough question.  I am trying to think back to my first year here and things I wished I had known then as well as things I am glad I learned soon after arriving.

I guess one thing I want to touch on quickly is first-year dorms.  At Messiah, as a first-year student, you will be living only with other first-year students (excluding your RA’s and Life Group Coordinator).  When I came to Messiah back in 2004, there were mixed floors of upper and lowerclassmen. Now I loved the upperclassmen on my floor.  They were extremely kind and open.  They left their doors open and welcomed you in to just hang out.  But now that housing has changed so that first-year students only live with eachother and upperclassmen with eachother, that interaction doesn’t happen as much.  I would like to encourage you to try to get to know as many upperclassmen as possible.  They’ll be very welcoming towards you and in my opinion really assist you in your first semesters here at Messiah.

Besides that, I really don’t know what kind of advice you’re looking for.  This does prompt me to ask you to please send me your questions and I will answer them here.  If you want to know about a certain aspect and be specific about it, I can give you a specific answer.  I mean it too when I say I will answer any questions you have.  If you want to know what the professors are like, which dorm is the best, is the dining hall awful, whatever.  Ask it, and I will answer it.  I know there are people here who are visiting but not leaving comments.  Do it and you’ll be happy!
