Did you hear?  The presidential candidates are coming to Messiah!  Well, Clinton and Obama are at least.  McCain was invited as well but so far hasn’t accepted.  I guess he doesn’t feel the need to come since he’s already grabbed the republican nomination.  The event is taking place on Sunday, April 13th, right inside our small Brubaker auditorium.  It’s not a debate, but rather each candidate will get 45 minutes to speak on social issues.  I’m not sure if there will be a question and answer time or not.  I guess we’ll see.

They only had a limited amount of tickets for students on campus and I was lucky enough to get picked in a drawing to attend.  CNN is going to be broadcasting the event live on TV however, so everyone can watch.  This is going to be a once in a lifetime chance though, I’m sure.  I’m not too crazy about politics, but I’ve been following these campaigns more than usual though, so I’m excited.  What an opportunity for Messiah College too.  We’re going to get national attention.  Great things for the college.

On May 17, 2008 I am going to walk across the stage, shake President Phipps hand, and hold my diploma in my hand.  I’ll officially be a college graduate.

It’s really difficult to believe that in under 2 months my academic career (as far as I am planning) will be done with forever.  I won’t sit in another classroom again, take another essay exam, or have a group meeting at 11pm.  I am both excited and nervous.

On May 17, 2008, I will also be turning 22.  Somehow it’s kind of neat that I will be celebrating graduation and my birthday all on the same day.  I haven’t decided if graduation is going to take away from the fact that it is my birthday, or add to it.  I suppose it will be a gift to myself in the very least.

A lot of majors will have a senior project of some sort or another they work on their last semester or two here at Messiah.  Marketing majors don’t really have a senior project per say, but we do have 2 capstone classes we have to take.  One is Strategic Management which all business majors must take, and then there’s Marketing Strategies which all marketing majors must take.

In both of these classes I will have to write a lengthy paper on integrating my faith with my career goals, as a marketer.  I will need to touch on why I have chosen to become a marketer, how my faith relates to my goals and ambitions, and how both will shape my life.  Unfortunately the requirements are slightly different for the two classes, so I’ll have to write two different papers.

I guess I’ll be spending a considerable amount of time looking at marketing and my faith and how the two can be interwoven.  I guess that isn’t a bad thing though.

Happy Valentines Day to all you lovers out there.  If you get a chance, tell your mom you love her too.  She’ll appreciate it!

(yes, I know I am a day early.  I just wanted to be different I guess)

I apologize for letting this blog go for more than 2 weeks!  I did better even when I was on Christmas break.  Jterm has been busy for me.  Class every day of the week for 4 hours, in addition having 2 hours a day usually does it in for me.

As far as class goes, we usually have an assignment as well as reading to do every night.  We’ll have pop quizzes at least once if not twice a week.  I received a 95% on my first test and am preparing for my final test that we’ll take tomorrow.  Yesterday I participated in a debate/presentation in front of not only my class by for 25-30 Dutch students who have been visiting Messiah for the month.  They were really cool though.  I talked to two of them for a little while.  Yoel and Marco (I hope I am spelling your names correctly…).  They were really cool guys.

As for work, we’ve been having Trustee’s Honors Days each Monday and Friday this month.  These are for high students who have proven to be of exceptional quality by posting high SAT scores, excellent GPA’s, and leadership experience.  If they choose to come to Messiah, some will be given scholarships and such.  Anyway, I am busy because each time we have a Honors Day, each of the student’s has their picture taken and then I have to create a photosheet with each of the individual’s pictures, names, and such so that the Counselors can have pictures to go with names.

Anyway, I am sorry that I haven’t written for a while.  I’ll do better next time.  I promise.

I’m back in Grantham, getting ready to start my J-Term.  We just have one class for the next three weeks and usually more free time than we know what to do with.  It’s a pretty sweet time.  I’m taking Moral Issues in Business, my ethics requirement.  My adviser is teaching the class.  He’s a Marketing prof.  I had him for my one class last Fall, so I am looking forward to taking a class with him again.  It should be good.

Christmas is over now until next year.  I had a awesome day though.  I woke up at about 7:00 along with my family and by 7:30 we were going at the stockings and presents.  I was given some nice clothes and other items.  I have never ever given anyone a “gift list” so when I am given presents, it’s always a suprise.  21 years of gift given and I’ve never really been disappointed too many times, so I guess it turns out alright.

After opening gifts at my house, we ate Breakfast together and then had about an hour of down time to mess with our gifts and just overall relax.  Then we headed off to my Grandmother’s house and spent time with my Dad’s side of the family.  We eat Lunch there and watch A Christmas Story which is always playing 24 hours a day on Christmas.

After a few hours there we head to my other Grandparent’s house and spend time with my Mom’s side of the family.  We eat dinner there and spend a lot of time with our Grandparents and Aunt’s, Uncles, and Cousins.  We exchange some gifts and stories at the same time.  I usually just listen or hang out with my Cousins.

I know it sounds like a lot of chaos and time spent with relatives, but I have a very close family and am very close with most of my relatives.  I enjoy getting to see them and spend time with them.

Other than Christmas Day, I’ve been just taking things easy and slow here at home.  I’m on break and doing everything I can to make it exactly that, a nice break from School and work and anything that resembles that.

So, there’s not much else to say I guess.  I’ll probably jump in here to write again at least once more before I return to Messiah.  Maybe around New Year’s.  Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!  Looking forward to a new year!

It’s Finals week, finally.  I had a paper and a test on Friday which took care of two of mine.  I have a final art project due tomorrow as well as a test for my Science Tech & the World class on electrical technology.  Wednesday is my Marketing Research exam and then I am done with my Fall semester of my Senior Year.  It’s crazy to think about that.  I will enjoy my break though.  I am going home and doing nothing but relaxing as much as I can.  I have two younger brothers who I know miss me though, so I’m expecting them to try and get me to do as much with them as I can.  Which I probably will.

Anyway, I will be writing a little bit over break.  So feel free to check back for updates.  I think I am going to think of some ideas of things we can do with this blog in the new year.  Something more exciting than just me writing, and you reading.

It’s Tuesday now, which means I only have 3 more days of classes this semester. On Monday, finals week begins. I actually have a final on Friday for my Business Law class, but still have to show up during our scheduled final exam time to see how I did and go over it as a class.

Besides that, I’ll have other test spread throughout that week. To be honest, I still haven’t looked at the schedule for tests to find out when mine are. One of my classes is Flag Football and Basketball, so there’s no final for that. Another one I just have to write a paper as my final. So, that leaves just 4 classes that I have a final in, which isn’t too much to handle (I hope).

Other than that, I’m just relaxing and enjoying the remainder of my last fall semester of school ever. I hope I go home and it just snows about a foot. My younger brother might be buying a snowboard, and we have a pretty huge hill on our property which is great for sledding and such. A year or two before I came to Messiah we had this cheesy little board and I spent about 2 hours building this amazing ramp out of the snow that I was going to jump off of in my attempt to land a 180 (i was so close) and my brother wanted to take the first jump so I let him go down and he broke the board. I never snowboarded again.

It’s snowing outside and for the first time it’s laying on the ground and actually accumulating.  Yes, it finally feels like winter here in good ol’ Grantham.  I can’t help but feel that Christmas is just around the corner.  Just a little while longer.  We’re almost there.
