Lottie Nelson Dinning Hall has a number of options for all taste bud preferences. While there are favorites such as Buffalo Chicken Salad, Burgers and Fries, the Soft Serve Ice Cream, or the Morning Omelet Bar. One of my personal favorites is the Mongolian Grill. This grill allows for students to place a variety of vegetables, meats, and spices into a bowl after which the Lottie staff will cook the ingredients stir-fry style. Along the other side of the grilling station there is typically rice, noodles, or other sides to put along with the stir-fry if students desire them. This is a great option for a tasty and filling meal in Lottie.

Words of Wisdom: Make the meal your own, and don’t be afraid to experiment a little with this. Personal favorite combo for the grill includes: broccoli, mini corn, water chestnuts, and pork, over either noodles or rice.

I am currently a Health and Physical Education major, but the road to finding my major was long. When I was first trying to decide what I wanted to study I was thinking about Architecture and Engineering. After that I thought about Chemistry, teaching Chemistry, definitely teaching, maybe math, and then I actually chose Math Ed. as my official major coming to Messiah. Mid way through my Sophomore year I was thinking abut what I was studying, if I really enjoyed it, and what else I would rather do if not math. I knew I definitely wanted to teach, both for being with students and also for coaching purposes, but I was feeling more and more like math wasn’t right for me. After talking with some people close to me I thought about Physical Education. It seemed like a good fit for me. I love working out, and I love playing games too! Since the switch I couldn’t be happier. I love my major and what I am studying. Right now my only wish is that I would have found my place sooner.

Words of Wisdom: Take your time finding your major. It’s easy to switch around and change what you would like to study. Find what makes you happy, what you can wake up to everyday,  something that you enjoy sharing with other people, and run with it.

While I did not go through the “normal” process of getting a roommate, because I am on the wrestling team here at Messiah, we were still placed together not knowing each other previously.  It was strange to think that I would be living a whole year with someone I did not know, and maybe would not like or get along with. I did my best to have faith and confidence throughout the summer that things would go well. As we moved through the school year I ended up loving my first roommate. We were able to communicate well on the expectations we had for each other, and just relax and have a great time together. While we aren’t roommates now, we still hangout a lot.
Words of Wisdom: Fill out your information/interests sheet as truthfully as possible for your housing and roommate assignment. Messiah housing personnel do a fantastic job of placing students with similar interests together, when the forms are filled out accurately.
