Being a caller at the admissions center, I’ve gotten to realize some patterns with students that come to Messiah, and one that I’ve noticed is that A LOT of you guys really like music!  Whether it be choirs, bands, or just concerts, you guys seem to be extremely interested in music, and Messiah has SO MANY opportunities for students to enjoy music, that I think it would be helpful to give you some tips for music enjoyment on campus!  First of all, for those of you who like to sing, there are all sorts of choirs and choral groups to join.  (more…)

Recently, campus has been covered in a thick blanket of snow remaining from last week’s storms, but yesterday I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of sunny Spain… without even leaving Grantham! This May term, I am lucky enough to be able to participate in the trip to Spain with about ten or so other students, and two other professors, and enjoy a full month of learning and sightseeing in one of the most amazing countries in the world! Every May and January, Messiah has opportunities for students to participate in Cross Cultural experiences, through which, a student can get together with a group of students from Messiah, and experience a three week course that focuses on utilizing the setting to teach lessons that we may not be able to understand here in America. For example, while in Spain, I’m going to be able to see TONS of architecture dating back centuries, in addition to famous paintings in historical museums, and even tour a shop where guitars are made. In addition to all of those AWESOME things, I’m a Spanish minor, so hopefully, I’ll be able to engage in conversation with some people, or at the very least, listen and observe the different dialects of the language I’m studying. Yesterday was our first meeting of spring semester, and we reviewed our syllabus (yep, even in a different country we’re going to be tested and expected to read for homework!) and we looked at power point presentations that one of the professors made containing pictures of sights we’ll be seeing once we get there. Everything looks beautiful and I’m so excited for the cultural experience! The thing I’m most excited for is the social aspect. Apparently, a common thing for young people in Spain is to go out to cafes at night which spill out onto the streets and kids spend hours there ordering appetizers, coffee, and just talking! It sounds amazing and I can’t wait to go around and partake in all sorts of Spanish activities, including home stays with Spanish families and even some time at the beach! The only downside to yesterday was the fact that right after this AMAZING and exciting meeting about sunny Spain, I had to walk back out into the freezing winter weather. However, the meeting DEFINITELY gave me something to look forward to when summer rolls around…
