Being a caller at the admissions center, I’ve gotten to realize some patterns with students that come to Messiah, and one that I’ve noticed is that A LOT of you guys really like music! Whether it be choirs, bands, or just concerts, you guys seem to be extremely interested in music, and Messiah has SO MANY opportunities for students to enjoy music, that I think it would be helpful to give you some tips for music enjoyment on campus! First of all, for those of you who like to sing, there are all sorts of choirs and choral groups to join. Ranging from gospel choir to women’s and men’s ensemble, concert choirs, and jazz ensemble, we have tons of groups for singers to join to fulfill your love for singing. When it comes to bands, we have all sorts of ensembles and concert bands that practice regularly and perform recitals as well. Another awesome thing about campus is the amount of concerts (mostly free) that we have on campus. Every week on Wednesday nights we have B-Sides, which is a free concert by smaller name bands that come to Messiah to show their stuff! It’s super fun, and FREE so perfect for a college kid
We also try to have some big name concerts a few times a year as well. These are not free, however they’re always totally worth the ten or fifteen bucks that they cost, and it makes for a super fun weekend! The most important part about all of this music appreciation on campus is that you keep on the look out for advertisements letting you know WHEN these concerts or ensembles are performing or holding auditions. Some advertisements are VERY well known around campus, but some take some searching. Regardless, the musical talent on campus is AMAZING and it’s definitely in your best interest to make sure to attend as many concerts as you can!
