Former softball standout inducted into NY Hall of Fame

July 6th, 2012

Jessica Regan Cotton ’99 was recently inducted into the inaugural New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls’ Sports New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame. Regan Cotton was a three-time All-American at Messiah and conference MVP for four straight years. She is featured in a June 26 Wellsville Daily article.

Alums turn soccer skills into successful business

March 20th, 2012

Soccer Shots is a franchise business started by three Messiah College alums–Justin Bredeman, Jason Webb and Jeremy Sorzano.  Soccer Shots teaches young children soccer skills as well as character-enhancing elements of the game such as showing appreciation. Each alum played soccer for Messiah and was interested in using their love of the game in their professional career. The York Daily Record covered this successful business on March 18.

Women’s soccer star motivated by faith

Erin Hench grew up attending soccer camp at Messiah College. She was aware of the legacy of the men’s and women’s soccer teams and was thrilled to enroll at Messiah. A November 11 Carlisle Sentinel story highlights Erin’s outstanding soccer career as a Messiah Falcon.

Field hockey coach Jan Trapp winds down career

Jan Trapp has coached the Messiah field hockey team for 40 years, and now she is just a few games (and hopefully a national championship) away from ending her career. Exhibition game earns women’s basketball kudos

The women’s basketball team played an exhibition game against the University of Maryland, earning kudos from coaches on both sides though losing the match against the DI powerhouse. The Harrisburg Patriot-News wrote a full-page story about the unusual match up in their November 3 edition.

Messiah grads leads local girl’s soccer team through successful season

June 30th, 2011

Seth Lehman, 2005 graduate, credits his successful year of leading the Cumberland Valley women’s soccer team to the excellent example he saw modeled as a player at Messiah College. Lehman, whose team was 27-1 overall and won the Mid-Penn, District 3 and PIAA spring championships, was named the 2011 Sentinel Coach of the Year from the local Carlisle Sentinel newspaper.

Lacrosse teams surprise opponents

April 25th, 2011

An April 24 Harrisburg Patriot-News article praised Messiah’s men’s and women’s lacrosse teams for outstanding seasons. Both teams had win streaks of at least seven games, and the women were enjoying national rankings in the top 15.
