Chris Boyles chases his Olympic dream

With the Olympic trials just barely a week away, Messiah College alumnus Chris Boyles `02 talked with the Carlisle “Sentinel” in the June 22 edition about the challenges of finding the time and money to pursue his dream of representing the United States in the decathlon in this year’s Summer Olympics.

Nick Kipe jumps to record length

June 2nd, 2008

A leap of 48 feet, 10 inches was enough for Messiah senior Nick Kipe to not only earn second place in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships but also to beat his older brother Hylton’s record by a mere four centimeters.

Baseball team draws from Lancaster area

May 23rd, 2008

Messiah College baseball earned a spot in NCAA Division III play, thanks in part to a contigent of players from the Lancaster-Lebanon region. A recent “Lancaster Intelligencer Journal” article proudly claims 10 players and coach Bryan Engle as local boys.

Women’s basketball team plays in championship game

The Falcons traveled to Hope College, Michigan, this past weekend were they scored a decisive 80-60 victory over Oglethorpe College in the Final Four before faltering in the championship game to undefeated Howard Payne.

Falcons reach Final Four

The Falcons are headed to the Final Four for the first time since the 2000-2001 season. With victories over the University of Rochester and Tufts, the women’s team now looks to Hope College in Holland, Mich., where they will face off against Oglethorpe University on Friday.

Falcons progress to Sweet Sixteen

The Falcons reinforced their 14-game winning streak with victories over Cabrini College and St. Lawrence University in the NCAA Division III playoffs over the weekend.

Nationally-ranked Falcons prepare to host tournament

All eyes are on Messiah as the College prepares to host the opening rounds of the NCAA Division III women’s basketball playoffs this weekend. Bob Black, columnist for the “Harrisburg Patriot-News” wrote in a March 7 article about the post-season games, “Messiah is deep, athletic, and talented with plenty of size.”

Falcons capture conference championship

For four years in a row, the Falcons have dominated the MAC Commonwealth Championship, thanks in part to the talents of senior Nikki Lobach, MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Lobach helped the Falcons rebound against Lebanon Valley on March 1 to capture the conference title. The “Harrisburg Patriot-News” wrote about the game on March 2.

Messiah dominates in first round of playoffs

February 28th, 2008

Messiah’s women’s basketball team handed Widener a decisive victory in the first round of the MAC Commonwealth Championship playoffs on Wednesday night. The “Carlisle Sentinel,” reporting on the game, called the 82-53 win a “blowout.” The ladies play Lebanon Valley on Saturday, March 1.

Falcons ready for the playoffs

February 28th, 2008

Messiah’s women’s basketball team captured their seventh regular season MAC Commonwealth Conference title after a Feb. 23 victory over Albright College. A Feb. 27 article in the “Harrisburg Patriot-News” comments how Messiah has “been blessed with solid senior leadership.” The Falcons will take on Widener in the first playoff game.
