Senior students optimistic about difficult job market

Seniors Christina Lohne and Amber Wenger spoke with CBS 21 about their job prospects, and why being young, enthusiastic, and adaptable works to their benefit in this difficult job market. The two students will attend the Business Women’s Forum, a Harrisburg-area event drawing 1,000 women for a day of training, seminars, and networking. The interview aired on the 5 p.m. broadcast of CBS’s evening news on March 26.

The interview occurred on the weekly feature, Help Wanted. (See “Help Wanted: Breaking into the Workforce” to view the actual clip.)

Educator’s experience and expertise add to conversation about reproductive medicine

Jenell Williams Paris, professor of sociology and anthropology, recently participated in two panel discussions for public broadcaster WITF. Paris, along with a local reproductive endocrinologist, discussed the medical and ethical issues of reproductive technologies, particularly in light of the Nadia Suleman case.

Paris appeared on a television broadcast of SmartTalk on March 20 and a SmartTalk radio broadcast on March 23.

Educator reflects on legacy of radio personality Paul Harvey

Paul Harvey was a friendly voice on radios across America for more than 50 years. Last week, when Harvey died at age 91, many remembered the radio personality for his famous “and now you know the rest of the story” send off. Ed Arke, chair of the communications department at Messiah, reflected on Harvey’s legacy in a March 8 “As I See It” column for the Harrisburg Patriot-News. In addition to remembering Harvey’s contributions to radio, Arke looks ahead to challenges and opportunities facing the radio industry.

Season ends for women’s basketball

Messiah’s women’s basketball team powered through their first round of NCAA Division III championship play with a decisive 81-46 win over Eastern Connecticut State. The next night, the Falcons fell to Thomas More College in a close 57-50 game.

Attorney ties his faith to his legal practice

The most recent issue of “A Time to Love,” a magazine of Christian relationship insights, features Stephen Bloom, J.D., lecturer in management and business at Messiah. Bloom, once a practicing attorney at a large, secular law firm, decided to start his own firm and begin providing Christian legal advice on a radio program. He eventually turned his radio program scripts into the book, “The Believer’s Guide to Legal Issues.”
