Young evangelicals respond to the spotlight this election season

Political opinions shaped by faith

Messiah College students are interested in the presidential election, and the on-campus student groups representing the Democrats and Republicans are talking about the issues and their candidates within the framework on their faith. Students Taylor Munoz and Amanda Arbour were interviewed about the political climate on campus in the Oct. 17 issue of the Carlisle “Sentinel.”

College-sponsored conference on race, education, and faith was “impressive”

The Ernest L. Boyer Center is lauded in an opinion piece by Catherine Meeks for facilitating an “impressive” conference on race, education, and faith. Meeks is the executive director of Aunt Maggie’s Kitchen Table, a community resource center and outreach program located in a public housing development in Macon, Georgia. As she writes in her opinion piece, published Oct. 8 in the “Macon Telegraph,” the answer to the question, “Can we talk about race?” is a resounding “Yes.”

Candidates should have resume of political experience

Paul Rego, assistant professor of politics, uses the historic Federalist Papers as context for arguing that there is great value in presidential and vice presidential candidates having a deep resume of experience in national politics. Rego’s opinion piece was printed in the “York Daily Record” on October 5.

College noted for commitments to sustainable energy

The College’s commitments to sustainable energy both locally and abroad were the subject of a feature story in the Oct. 5 issue of the Carlisle “Sentinel.” The article highlights the recent solar pavilion dedication, the Collaboratory’s installation of solar panels in remote African villages, and a record of success with solar-powered vehicles.

Soccer programming thriving with help from local talent

“If you were to ask a local soccer insider for directions to the sport’s hall of fame, they might mistakenly direct you to Messiah College in Grantham,” writes Bob Black, “College Corner” columnist for the “Harrisburg Patriot-News.” In the Oct. 2 issue, Black recaps both the men’s and women’s success and highlights local players playing on this year’s teams.
