Students talk about emergency landing

February 1st, 2008

Broad media coverage of an airplane’s emergency landing Jan. 30 has brought some Messiah College students into the spotlight. Twenty-four Messiah students and two educators were traveling home on Jan. 30 from a J-Term cross-cultural trip to the French West Indies when the cockpit of their plane filled with smoke. Ninety minutes from land, the passengers were briefed in procedures for a potential water landing and emergency land evacuation. Thankfully, the plane safely landed in West Palm Beach, Florida.

A sampling of the media coverage:
Read “American jet diverts to PBIA with smoke-filled cockpit” from the “South Florida Sun-Sentinel.”
Read “Keeping Faith on Flight” from the “York Daily Record.”
Read “Panic, then joy as jetliner lands at PBIA with smoky cockpit” from the “South Florida Sun-Sentinel.”
Read “Students prayed as damaged airliner headed to PBIA” from the “Palm Beach Post.”
Read “Frightening flight” from the “Philadelphia Daily News.”
Read what local television stations are reporting: NBC 8, ABC 27, and CBS 21.
Read “Fear, chaos in the sky” from the “Lancaster New Era.”
Read “Emergency landing: Hanover women recalls smoke, panic, prayer” in the “Hanover Evening Sun.”
