Mike True, director of Messiah’s Internship Center, is no stranger to media interviews. Considered one of the leading thinkers about the value of internship experiences, True’s expertise dovetailed nicely with a January “Harrisburg” magazine article about “Landing Your Dream Job in `08.” In this article, True cites the importance of paying a stipend, even if it’s small, to interns.

In an interview with “Harrisburg” magazine (January issue), Mayor Stephen Reed comments on the city’s emergence as a “college town,” including mentioning Messiah’s recently-relocated Harrisburg Institute on the corner of Dewberry and Blackberry Streets. Messiah joins other midstate schools in making Harrisburg a center for higher education, a new chapter in Harrisburg’s evolution, the mayor said.

Messiah College was profiled among other local colleges in a December 21 “Central Penn Business Journal” article about the green initiatives on college campuses. Kathie Shafer, vice president of operations, cited some of the ways that “environmental consciousness has been a trademark at Messiah” for some time: recycling, purchasing wind energy, maintaining the Yellow Breeches Creek, starting a campus garden, and creating a task force to explore environmental issues.

After four phenomenal years with the Falcons, senior soccer player Kai Kasigurn has been recognized as the DIII Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Kasiguran is the third Messiah player to earn this top honor.
In a December 26 story in the “Harrisburg Patriot-News,” coach Dave Brandt said of Kasiguran, “Kai is perhaps the most accomplished player in the history of Division III soccer.”
