With the theme of forgiveness at the core of Professor David Weaver-Zercher’s latest book, “Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy,” Dave was more than qualified to talk with the “Denver Post” (December 14) about reconciliation and what motivated the New Life Church in Colorado Spring to extended forgiveness after a gunman opened killed four people in their building.

College students around the country find creative ways to blow off steam during finals week. At Messiah, they scream at midnight. This tradition earned the College a mention in a recent AP story about how students keep their sanity during finals week.

The men’s basketball team is poised to make a repeat visit to the NCAA Division III tournament, according to “Harrisburg Patriot-News” sports writer James Phillips on December 8. Quoting coach Rick VanPelt, “This year’s team is looking long-term. We have a lot of potential…we’ll just work on it.”

Women’s basketball coach Mike Miller was recently described by “Harrisburg Patriot-News” sports writer James Phillips as a multi-task individual who is also a counselor, disciplinarian, motivator, recruiter, and father-figure that has built his basketball program in the right way with good students, good athletes, and good people.

Samuel Smith, professor of English, weighs in on the fuss surrounding the release of “The Golden Compass,” a film based on a novel by Philip Pullman, in an “As I See It” opinion column in the December 7 issue of the “Harrisburg Patriot-News.” Smith, who asserts in his closing that “Pullman is of Jesus’ party without knowing it,” adds his voice to a chorus of evangelicals with varying opinions about the film.
