I think this trip was an mazing experience to learn, be inspired, have fun, travel and see what Ihave never seen before.
What is great about this road trip is that I got to travel to Hershey, Charlottesville, Reston, Falls Church and Vienna and other places. Most of them I have never been to before. I have met different people and interacted with intellectuals and professionals. I have learned alot of myself which helped me decide about my field of interest. It was not the fact that I interviewed doctors, nurses or CEOs that made the difference but meeting and interacting with them inspired and taught me the most about the medical profession.
I know that sounds corny but I would like to thank Messiah’s Career Center for doing such an amazing program.
I hope I did not bore you out. I am sad that I am done with all my interviews. Christina

She had a long and an amazing journey to pursue her career in both medicine and healthcare. She worked in variety of places and traveled around the world. She brings in a different perspective of medicine and how it is limited by health insurance. LuAnn has some very inspiring ideas! She is pursuing her PH.D in health Information system. When I asked her what she wants to do with her PH.D degree, she said “change healthcare in this country, Leveling it out for the poor and the rich”. He gave some great insights on a different career in medicine, the career of healthcare administration. He talked about his career path and how can someone who is interested in medicine and does not particularly like science/math can make a big difference in healthcare. He also pointed to some problems facing medicine like insurance and lack of healthcare givers.

I learned the difference between working in a doctor office setting and a hospital for example.
Dr. Hong started out as an engineer then changed to study medicine in China. After coming to America, he got his PH.D in Neurolog. He is so smart. Watch his interview to get some insights on some healthy tips and being a doctor.

Dr. Ahn is a pediatric neurosurgeon and I am really interested in that field so it was really a treat to have done that interview!!! I learned alot from Dr. Ahn, especially about life after college and medical school. He told me that he spent 7 yrs in residency after medical school!! The second doctor was supposed to be Dr. Redett. The appointment was set for 1:45, right after a major reconstructive surgery he had that day. His secretary came up and said that he had not gotten into the or until 1 and would not be done for 4 hours, the procedure would last that long. Fortunately, his colleague said he would be willing to do a last minute interview. This was Dr. Deune and he was also a reconstructive plastic surgeon. I also learned a great deal from him!!! Thats about it in a nutshell!!! Thats all the interviews for Hit the Road!!! It was a great experience and one that I will cherish and remember!!! thanks career center…bye!!!! :)

Yesterday was the interview with Dr. Snyder. He is a Messiah Alum and currently is the head of the international health services based in Valley Forge PA. He spent 25 years in emergency medicine and now travels the world training medical professionals in different countries. I learned loads from that interview!!! It was also great to hear about a successful Messiah grad. He is a very interesting person to have interviewed. I am very glad that he was one of the interviewees. Thanks to Dr. Snyder!!!

I went to the University of Virginia to interview Randy Schrecengost who is a Messiah Alum pursuing his Ph.D in Microbiology. Randy gave insights on what graduate school work is like.

I also interviewed Kate Schrecengost, Randy’s wife. Kate is a resident at the Universit of Virginia hospital. She gave a tour of her journey in becoming a general Pediatrician.
My interviews with Kate and Randy were very insightful and helpful.
They both emphazised the importance of patience and self-motivation in the field of Medicine and really in every field.

O my goodness thursday was fun!!! we managed to make it to Hershey not only on time but early!!! Too bad we got lost in the building after we got there!!! But it was all worth it. I learned loads from Dr. Matters and I’m glad we went! I have to admit, I’m not the biggest molecular biology/biochemistry person but I had no idea there was so much more to it than just experiments and calculations. Now I’m excited for medical school. Next week its off to Valley Forge to meet Bob Snyder (I’ll keep you posted on that) then down to wonderful Johns Hopkins Medical Center to interview Dr. Ahn and Dr. Redett. Both are pediatric surgeons and I’m super excited. CYA : )
