I am a parent of a resident at Cumberland Vista Group Home. Are there any students who are interested in doing things with mentally challenged young adults? I was thinking of taking them for a walk, playing games with them, doing exercises-that would be great because right now they get very little exercise. Cumberland Vista is on York Road which is not to far from the college and I am sure the students would find the experience very rewarding. All of the residents come over to the college for the Special Olympics, so possible your students might already know some of them.

The Sycamore House intentional community in Harrisburg is continually seeking individuals who are interested in becoming involved with our efforts here. We are particularly looking for people to help us renovate a property in Allison Hill that will eventually be a branch of our community.
On that note, we are also looking for people to live in the community in Allison Hill. Expect to do something like 15 hours of service a week in exchange for free rent and a life-changing experience. Interested? email us!
We are looking for volunteers interested in improving inner-city education while gaining experience by tutoring one of our junior high school boys throughout this school year.
Every Thursday 3:30-4:30 pm is the most ideal time to assist one of our 6th, 7th or 8th grade boys with homework, studying and improving study skills and practices. No preparation necessary. (Mon-Wed, 3:30-4:30 is also an option)
Please consider this simple, yet deeply significant and impacting option to influence our Allison Hill community. Our privately funded school cannot operate without our volunteer support. Thank you!

I am the pastor of Morning Hour Chapel located about 15 miles south of Messiah Collage. we are looking for one or two students to provide some leadership and treaching for junior highers. this would be a once or twice a month commitment on Sunday AM and perhaps if you wanted to some kind of a fun outting type event. it would be up to you. We have lots of ideas, we just need YOU!
We would reimburse your expenses, especially gas. if you don’t have transportation I could provide it for you as I live just up the hill from the soccar field. Harrisburg Clean Streets Project, is
working with Friends of Midtown and the Environmental Law & Policy
Society to organize a litter cleanup throughout Midtown.
Litter is a scourge of our neighborhood. Bottles, food wrappers, and
cigarette packs make our streets look like dumping grounds. Removing
these items makes our streets more attractive, improves property
values, discourages further littering, and encourages a sense of pride
and self-worth. Remember that community pride begins with community
service.
We will meet on Saturday October 18, 2008, at 9:00 AM, at Third and
Harris streets, the northern parking lot of HACC’s Midtown campus. We
will then break into teams and cover the area bound by Forster, Front,
Maclay, and Seventh streets, finishing up between 12:00 and 1:00 PM to
celebrate with refreshments. A rain date is scheduled for Saturday the
25th at the same time and place.
If anyone is able to help with this any time, for any amount of time, please email CleanStreetsHBG@care2.com
As for the cleanup itself, gloves, bags, and bottled water will be
provided. Just bring your friends, family, and some neighborhood pride.
