Welcome to the first post of this blog! My name is Sean Clark, and I’m a sophomore Business Information Systems (BIS) major. You’ve probably seen the information sciences website - I’ve been helping to put that together. If you’re here and you want any school-licensed software, you might bump into me since I administrate that. Professor Kilmer, who you will be your advisor if you choose BIS, wanted to give you a glimpse of what your life may be like as a BIS major at Messiah College. This blog is that glimpse, and he selected me to kick things off.

So what’s happening in this BIS student’s life right now? Our major requires us to take some BIS classes - the one I’m in right now is BIS381, or “Information Systems and Managers”. This class encompasses a range of topics as broad as it’s name. For example, right now we’re in the process of revising a personal paper about current issues in information technology (IT) - I chose the rise of advanced artificial intelligence for mine. Ever watch the Terminator? That’s right, it encompassed some wild sci-fi ideas out there.

A few of the other things we’ve done are talk about how to write technically for non-technical people (after all, most people in organizations aren’t exactly ‘tech-savvy’), which information systems are used in organizations and where - and on one particular sunny day, we went for a walk to get some ice cream. Not everything we do is directly related to BIS, however - for example, I’m studying for an exam in ‘Managerial Accounting’ and reading a chapter for ‘Business Law I’.

That’s enough for today. I’ll be updating this blog periodically, so check back! And on your way out, here’s an fascinating video about the impact of information sciences in our world today:
