Kodak unveils its new line of Vision 3 film stocks

The evolution of motion picture film continues. Welcome to round 3.

November 30th, Kodak unveiled its new line of Vision 3 film stocks which improve the already spectacular latitude of their Vision 2 stocks. Every filmmaker (and video guys in recovery) should read the specs on these film stocks (click on the image above to go to the Kodak web page).

While top-flight digital-imaging cameras like RED One or Dalsa Origin offer somewhere between 10 to 12 stops of latitude, this film offers 16 stops, reaching further in both the highlights and the shadows.

Although it can be argued that in some future time, digital capture systems will eventually catch up to film quality, it must be admitted that we are nowhere near that time yet.
