New Link in the Blog Roll

There’s a new link in my blog roll:

Jim Rohner’s Film and Media Blog

Jim is an alumnus of Messiah’s Film and Digital Media Concentration and I’m happy to recommend his blog to readers. I can’t always agree with what he says (his list of great horror films leaves off every film before the late 1950s! What is he thinking?). But at least he is thinking, and that’s leagues further than most media blogs can boast: a thoughtful author!

Jim has reminded me that he “did include “Freaks” on my list of movies never to be remade as well as “Peeping Tom” both classic older films,” which I admit not having seen. It was precisely “Freaks” that I was thinking of, but also “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. Arguably the Kaufman remake (1978) is better than the original in terms of terror, but the original by Don Siegel (1956) is pretty darn frightening!

I’m also proud that he resisted the inclusion of the “Shining”. It is one of Kubrick’s dullest films.

When it comes to horror, I can’t think of anyone I’d turn to other than Jim! His knowledge of the genre and its history is well beyond that of most professional critics I know. That and the guy has one of the most cutting wits I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. His stuff is really entertaining! (Full disclosure: I’m a little biased - I manage the site and I added him to the site’s blog roster).

He is one smart cookie - be sure to keep an eye on his blog when he heads to Sundance in January for all sorts of film reviews and festival goodness!
