Whither the Documentary?
Yes, many people have written about the impact of new technologies on the documentary. What will YouTube (now GooTube), Putfile, GodTube, et alia mean for the struggling documentarian? Will quality of careful analysis go down as quantity of video image goes up? Will the Dancing Cadet drive the thoughtful monuments of “creative treatment of actuality” (as pioneering filmmaker John Grierson defined the documentary) into oblivion? And where will the money come from for financing these new-fangled docs?
