Mother and son talk about growing up at Messiah

At the time of Linda and Nathaniel Parkyn’s interview (October 2009), Messiah College was celebrating its Centennial year. The Parkyns were on campus for the Centennial Homecoming celebration, and more than happy to reminisce about their 25 years at Messiah.

Linda, a beloved Spanish teacher, talked to Nathaniel about what originally brought the family to Grantham and about the various experiences and highlights of her time as a Messiah educator. One highlight, she said, was the year she spent abroad in Mexico as a Fulbright Scholar. She loved being immersed in the language and culture. She also happened to be in Mexico on September 11, 2001, and vividly recalls the compassion and sympathy that her Mexican colleagues showed her at the time.

Linda continues to teach Spanish is now also the first lady of North Park University in Chicago where her husband David is president.
