Chalkboard Graffiti

April 24th, 2009

Last night was the annual Da Blazin’ Footprintz hip hop performance, “Chalkboard Graffiti.”  The outreach group consists of approximately 25 freshman, sophomore, junior and senior girls who meet throughout the course of the year to learn dance routines and to mentor children in an after-school program at a local school in Harrisburg.

Da Blazin Footprintz show their audience that hip hop can be used to send a positive message.  The dancers wear appropriate costumes and choregraph dances tastefully.

The routines are choreographed by several individuals, whose majors range from Psychology, to Business/Marketing, to Broadcasting.  The hip hop synergizes modern with classical, including some ballet and tap.
Tickets are on sale for Friday, April 24 at 7:30, and cost only $4 for over an hour and a half of high-energy entertainment.

In my easter bonnet

April 8th, 2009

It’s almost that time.  Tomorrow the college campus will be emptying out for the four day weekend.  Although I’m hanging around an extra day to work at my internship, I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and focusing on the great gift we have of Jesus as our Savior.  Holidays like Christmas and Easter are very special to me because of my 7 year-old sister.  While my family is Christian, my little sister Deanna does a great job of reminding us all exactly what these holidays are about.  She definitely has that innocent faith and love of a child that we are all called to have in our relationship with God.  Especially now, I have to keep reminding myself to put all of my trust in God and his plan for me.  I have yet to secure a job and graduation is only 38 days away…not that I’m counting or anything.  Maybe Deanna can teach me some more about life when I’m home.  I’m sure she’ll try to convince me to live at home after I graduate.

April Fools

April 1st, 2009

Luckily I’ve escaped today (so far) with no injuries.  Play nice everyone.

Let the countdown begin

February 4th, 2009

Ok, so, there’s officially 100 days until graduation; therefore, I’ve decided to set some goals for myself.  Kind of like New Year’s resolutions:

  1. Live day-to-day, not for weekends (I’m beginning to realize how quickly these 100 days are going to pass).
  2. Be able to run 6 miles non-stop by April, in preparation for a half-marathon by the summer/spring, AND loose 5 more pounds in the process.
  3. Have a job in NYC- PR/Marketing…so if you have any contact please let me know.  I’ve got a resume and portfolio ready to go.
  4. Learn how to do design work in photoshop and indesign.
  5. And save as much money as possible (no more unnecessary shopping trips).

Let me know if you have any advice/suggestions for how to accomplish these.

See you next year!

December 17th, 2008

so finals are over. It snowed yesterday. And Christmas is just a week away.  Wow.  In retrospect, this semester has absolutely flown by, perhaps because of all the business.  And seriously, I just want to thank each of my professors for being such tremendous sources of understanding and encouragement.  This semester would have been unbearable without their support.

I’m really looking forward to Christmas break and being home with the family (and eating lots of foooooood!). Hopefully break will go by slow without any illnesses (when I stop working 24/7 my body usually decides to get sick).
2009 *that feels weird to type*…is sure to be a ton of fun.   I haven’t quite come up with a New Year’s resolution, but I’m not sure that I necessarily need one.  This past year has been such a year of discovery and transformation that I kind of feel like I have enough on my plate.  All I know is that when the ball drops I’m going to be with my most favoritest person, ever.

Spring is going to be much easier and much more enjoyable for me since I won’t be drowned in a ton of work.  Although, I am a little worried about going to interviews and having to take days off because of traveling.  Hopefully I will have this problem :)   (too many interviews would be nice).  I’m sure professors expect it the last semester of senior year anyway.

Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year!

Cure by Christmas Cookie-Eating Contest

December 8th, 2008

As part of the Senior Public Relations Campaign class, we will be hosting a Christmas cookie-eating contest and cookie decorating party this Tues., Dec. 9, from 7-9 p.m. in the Larsen Student Union to raise funds for CURE International.  CURE is a non-profit faith-based organization that exists to heal children with physical disabilities in developing countries.  Grab your friends and come to the Union to support the cause and to help cure children this Christmas!  And eat lots of cookies, of course!

Ready for Christmas

December 5th, 2008

I just got back from Thanksgiving vacation in Florida with the family.  While seeing my 7 year-old sister experience Disney for the first time was priceless, the trip itself was not very restful (which was something I needed).  Each day I experience a kind of relief that the semester is almost over, but then that feeling quickly becomes replaced with severe anxiety and stress.  This semester has literally “kicked my butt.”

Since I’ve been back I’ve started listening to Christmas music :)   It’s totally getting me in the Christmas spirit!  I love love LOVE this time of year!!!!  I’m really excited about what this New Year will bring.  I truly believe that this coming year will be the most transitional one yet.  Once the semester’s over I’m really going to start the job hunt.  Hard core.  I’m looking to move to NYC so I want to start as soon as possible so that I can secure a job by graduation.

It’s kinda funny how ready I am to be finished with school…I didn’t even know that Christmas Tradition is next week, ha.

Thanksgiving

November 17th, 2008

It seems the only time I write is before break.  I guess they’re the times I need to reflect on all that’s been going on.  The past two weeks have been a great experience.  I think I want to work at a PR agency after graduation, so I spent time interviewing personnel at JPL Creative and Neiman Group in Harrisburg to learn about what they do and what to expect in this field.  It’s amazing how many people are so willing to help you!!  I REALLY REALLY REALLY suggest that everyone, whether you’re in high school or college, do job shadows and meet with professionals in the field that you wish to pursue. The contacts you will make are invaluable!   I can’t wait to begin applying for jobs and hopefully live in NY with my best friend.

Pray for me as I undertake the final stretch of the semester.  There’s only a faint light at the end of the tunnel.

Homecoming!

October 15th, 2008

Fall break has passed :( , and now homecoming’s right around the corner!  I’m looking forward to having old friends return to campus to visit for the first time after graduation.  I still can’t believe they’re really gone.  For some reason I still expect to see their faces around campus.  But that’s another story…

This year I’m involved with the Senior Public Relations campaign class and we are working for CURE International.  CURE International is a non-profit faith-based organization that works in developing countries to provide affordable and practical medical care for families in need.  CURE has helped cure Hydrocephalus, Cleft Palate, Clubfoot, Spina Bifida and other spinal deformities, and crippling orthopedic conditions for individuals who would be outcast from society without treatment.  Visit CURE’s Web site at: http://www.helpcurenow.org/site/c.nvI1IeNYJyE/b.3389445/k.B837/Non_Profit_Charity_Help_for_Physically_Disabled_Children.htm

At homecoming our public relations team will be conducting intercept surveys to gather information and handing out CURE bracelets, SO COME OUT AND SEE ME BEFORE THE GAME OR AT HALF TIME!!!!  We’ll be wearing black, long-sleeved t-shirts.
