um…so about the gum

Categories: Uncategorized , About Me |

Due to circumstances beyond my control, your curiousity about the four pounds of bubblegum that I purchased yesterday will have to remain unsatiated. Sorry about that. But, don’t despair. You will eventually see why a nice girl with TMJ would purchase so much gum.

On another note, that quirky David Crowder is asking people who read his blog to press shuffle on their digital music player of choice and then type the first ten songs that come up into the comment section of his blog. Fun! I did it last night, and here’s what I got:

“Brilliant Disguise” by Bruce Springsteen (Thanks, dad, for helping me, at a young age, appreciate “The Boss.”)
“Lead Me On” by Amy Grant (Best Amy Grant album ever. Hand’s down. Don’t be dissin’ on Amy.)
“For the Moments I Feel Faint” by Relient K (I would never buy a whole Relient K album…)
“City of Blinding Lights” by U2 (Love this U2 song…Jeff and I used it for our grand entrance to our wedding reception!)
“Brighter than Sunshine” by Aqualung (Quirky. Catchy.)
“Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet (Um…I have no real explanation.)
“100 Years” by Five for Fighting (Sweet song.)
“You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger is one of life’s great philosophers as evidenced in this tune.)
“In My Place” by Coldplay (I’m convinced you can’t go wrong with Coldplay.)
“New Way To Be Human” by Switchfoot (old Switchfoot is so much better than new Switchfoot)

Now, you tell me. What on your iPod/MP3 player?

A shame no one has answered this yet!

    1. Supernatural Superserious (R.E.M.) - They’re back for real this time!
    2. Strange Times (The Black Keys) - Produced by Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley!
    3. Thinking About You (Norah Jones) - One of the wife’s favorites.
    4. Mistaken for Strangers (The National) - Looking forward to the concert at Messiah in May.
    5. Another Postcard (BNL) - Any song about chimps is a keeper in my book.
    6. Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution (The Black Crowes) - They’re back for real this time too!
    7. Fire and Rain (James Taylor) - Nowadays, it’s ok to admit to being a JT fan.
    8. Seven Steps to Heaven (Miles Davis) - Always gotta have some Miles in your playlist.
    9. Australia (The Shins) - One of the best from last year.
    10. Tears of Gold (Ryan Adams) - A crazy dude, but very talented nonetheless.

Oh, and here’s my random list:

    1. Billy Joel - Great Wall of China (LOVE Billy Joel! One day I want to see him in concert)

    2. Rolling Stones - I Get No Satisfaction (yup, I love them, too!)

    3. Alan Jackson - Everything I Love (I love dear old Alan, but this song is really sappy…I don’t know why I have it on my list)

    4. The Byrds - Turn Turn Turn (good song!)

    5. Point of Grace - Rain Down on Me (not their best song, but I do like them)

    6. Flogging Molly - May the Living be Dead in Our Wake (Who doesn’t love a good Irish drinking song?)

    7. The Beatles - Hello Goodbye (love ‘em!)

    8. Amy Grant - Raining on the Inside (good song)

    9. Amy Grant - Arms of Love (my shuffle cheated)

    10. Eli - God Weeps Too (This song is so great and helps me remember how important I am to God)

Ten songs isn’t enough…this is fun!

My next 10 Songs were better…

“Wouldn’t it Be Nice” by the Beach Boys (makes me think of 50 First Dates!)
“Alley Oop” by The Hollywood Argyles (Their one hit wonder…my mom used to work with the lead singer.)
“Deeper Than the Hollar” by Randy Travis (awwww)
“Basket Case” by Green Day (Who doesn’t love to dance like a fool to this song?)
“Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me” by Keith Urban (Well…who wouldn’t?)
“Get In line” by Barenaked Ladies (love them!)
“Endangered Love” by Larry The Cucumber (Veggietales…hahahaha)
“Crazy” by Kidney Thieves (psycho sounding version of the classic Patsy Cline song)
“Kokomo” by The Beach Boys (Yup, and now you’re singing “Aruba, Jamaica, Ooh I wanna take ya…”)
“Blue Suede Shoes” by Elvis (Can you believe he would be 72 years old now? I love the King.)

Ok, I’ll leave you alone, now!

Okay, so I finally got around to doing this first 10 random songs thing, and i had to laugh, because I had forgotten some of these songs were on my iPod. Here goes…

    1) “You Can Call Me Al” (Paul Simon) - can anyone hear this song and not think of the video with Chevy Chase?
    2) “Ill-M-I” (TobyMac) - Hersey, March 6th, here we come!
    3) “Blaze of Glory” (Bon Jovi) - One of the few artists from the Hair Band era that actually got better as time went on.
    4) “Summer of 69″ (Bryan Adams) - Okay, so I wasn’t born by the summer of ‘69, but still a great song.
    5) “Walk Away From Love” (PFR) - Truly one of the greatest bands of all time. I miss them!
    6) “So Much 2 Say” (Take 6) - From a vocal standpoint, no one holds a candle to these guys.
    7) “Go, Go, Go Joseph” (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat soundtrack) - if you ever get a chace to see this show on the stage, I highly recommend it. Phenomenal music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the story stays fairly accurate to the Biblical text, even if Pharoah kinda looks and sounds like Elvis.
    8) “The Saga Begins” (Weird Al Yankovich) - Okay, ‘fess up. Who doesn’t like a good Weird Al song?
    9) “Voice of Truth” (Casting Crowns) - their debut album was phenomenal. I listened to it non-stop for months. And any band that survived being youth leaders before becoming a band gets a huge thumbs-up in my book!
    10) “Bound To Come Some Trouble” (Rich Mullins) - Perhaps the greatest poet the Christian music world ever had. I remember being in the car on the way to a Geoff Moore concert at Messiah when we heard the news of his death. Everyone of his songs was poignant and compelling. I cannot wait to get to heaven if only to hear the new songs he’s written.

    What a great idea!

    1. Ryan Adams, “Call Me On Your Way Back Home” - Not my favorite song by Mr. Adams, but who can resist that smoldering voice and devastating lyrics?

    2. Sufjan Stevens, “Casmir Pulaski Day” - Beautiful imagery. Sufjan mixes serious lyrical ability with unprecedented instrumental orchestration.

    3. Steve Earle, “Satellite Radio” - I saw Steve at a free show at World Cafe Live in Philly once, and he played this song. Definitely one of the most expressive performers touring today!

    4. Johnny Cash, “We’ll Meet Again” - Anything that Cash did in those last five albums was equal parts tough and heartbreaking.

    5. Patty Griffin, “Cold As It Gets” - I don’t remember when I started listening to Patty Griffin’s music, but with her amazing vocal range and lyrical mastery, she’s tough to get out of your head.

    6. Steve Earle, “Good Ol’ Boy (Getting Tough)” - Sometimes the problem with putting entire albums on your iPod but only listening to certain songs is that you miss out on a bunch of stuff. This is a good example of that scenario.

    7. Drive-By Truckers, “Carl Perkins’ Cadillac” - Drive-By Truckers are like Lynrd Skynrd with good lyrics. This song is a good example of manging their “hard rock” sound in favor of telling a compelling story.

    8. Emmylou Harris, “Here I Am” - The lyrics of this song don’t really make sense to me, but I LOVE Emmylou’s voice.

    9. The Wailin’ Jennys, “Swallow” - I heard this Canadian bluegrass trio once on Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion, and immediately downloaded their album on iTunes. So pretty.

    10. Bruce Springsteen, “Radio Nowhere” - I just put The Boss’ new album on my iPod. It’s amazing. This song has so much attitude.
