Dear Engineering majors with Mechanical and Electrical Concentration,

The following is a request we received for an intern that fits the description below to work in a company involved with the Aviation & Aerospace Industry.

Your Internship/Externship Coordinator,
Dr. Underwood

I am interested in hiring a part time student immediately who would be able to work through the summer and possible another for the summer. The person will be assigned two primary tasks. The first will be the development of a parts database based on Access. The second task will be to learn Pro/E and support the efforts of our design team for new products. Therefore, I would need someone who is strong with SolidWorks (Pro/E experience is helpful) who is able to learn. We have good training tools available for Pro/E so the first two weeks would likely be devoted to learning Pro/E. They need to have a strong mechanical and electrical background. I will also be evaluating the individual for possible post graduate employment.

Dr. David Vader passed along this opportunity to me last Wednesday, and it looked good enough to post here:

Dear friends,

Here is a link to an internship program at national labs in the US, including the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). They will hire undergraduates and seniors on their way to graduate school. The application deadline is approaching. Greater specificity will get you more attention than generality. For example, state an interest in “photovoltaics”, OR “fuel cells”, OR “biofuels”, not “anything in renewable energy. Related experience in the Collaboratory, or a need to learn to support future Collaboratory work would be a plus on your application.

Several years ago Matt Rooke, a Messiah Engineering grad from my class year, took a position at NREL working on buildings and energy efficiency. His summer internship experience was a gateway to graduate work in energy modeling and eventually his current job: analyzing energy usage of buildings for an architecture and design firm that offers sustainable design services. The program definitely comes recommended.
