Summer opportunities at NREL and elsewhere

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Dr. David Vader passed along this opportunity to me last Wednesday, and it looked good enough to post here:

Dear friends,

Here is a link to an internship program at national labs in the US, including the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL). They will hire undergraduates and seniors on their way to graduate school. The application deadline is approaching. Greater specificity will get you more attention than generality. For example, state an interest in “photovoltaics”, OR “fuel cells”, OR “biofuels”, not “anything in renewable energy. Related experience in the Collaboratory, or a need to learn to support future Collaboratory work would be a plus on your application.

Several years ago Matt Rooke, a Messiah Engineering grad from my class year, took a position at NREL working on buildings and energy efficiency. His summer internship experience was a gateway to graduate work in energy modeling and eventually his current job: analyzing energy usage of buildings for an architecture and design firm that offers sustainable design services. The program definitely comes recommended.

Nanotechnology Internship Opportunity

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN) is offering a paid summer research opportunity in nanotechnology. Check out our Job and Internship Opportunities page for more information.

If you are an employer with a job opportunity that may interest Messiah engineering students or recent Messiah graduates, please send it our way! After reviewing it, we will be happy to post it on our website and forward it to our students.
