so for all of you faithful readers of dan’s blog…
check out my blog for an update on the sick boy.
so when i got back to my room on friday afternoon i was greeted by a wonderful surprise…baby fish! yes, one of the fish i brought home on sunday happened to be pregnant! who knew? molly (the black molly) had a total of 8 babies (4 of which did not make it). the remaining 4 are healthy little swimmers! they are the cutest little things ever and a welcomed surprise. they are currently residing in a sectioned off part of the tank in my room (so they don’t get eaten). each baby is about a half inch wide and 1/8th inch tall which means they are tiny!

there’s the babies!

there’s the four babies w/ their mommy (who was quite upset that she did not have access to her newborns)! the dime is there for size comparison. i’m not kidding when i say they’re small!

the proud mommy. apparently once a molly is impregnated she can give birth up to 3 or 4 times (once a month) so there’s a good possibility that in another month more babies will be welcomed into the world. a 10 gallon tank isn’t gonna be enough for 3 or 4 litters of mollies!

the problem: i have another molly (rolly the dalmatian molly) who we believe is a female as well. soooo…there’s a possibility that if she’s also pregnant that i’ll have two sets of baby mollies! oh dear…this is going to be a long semester! there’s also the possibility that 4 baby mollies will be it…so who knows!

while i’m at it, let me introduce you to mickey (the mickey mouse fish). you can kinda see the mickey mouse face at the tail region. he/she doesn’t have the distinct marking, but i still love her. if you’re adventurous…the two “ears” are the black markings closer to the tail. mickey’s head is on the inside toward the body. it’s kinda there.
i guess all of this means i’m a grandpa. i don’t know how i feel about that!
sorry the photos are blurry…it’s really hard to photograph fish that never stop moving! i’ll keep everyone updated on the fish situation as news develops!
so i’m just going to cram three entries into one…think of it as a buy one get two free deal!
first and foremost, there are three new additions to my family…three new fish that is! on sunday sandie and i went out and picked 3 fish to join the lonely swimmers that previously have occupied the 10 gallon tank. no pictures yet…petsmart said that i have to give them a week before they can be exposed to photos…you know how baby animals are (totally kidding…this is my poor excuse for not photographing them yet. my other “poor” yet real excuse is that i have a lot of homework and have yet to find the time to photograph them.). the three new additions are: molly (a black molly), rolley (a dalmatian molly-named after rolly from 101 dalmatians), and mickey (a mickey mouse platy-no lie…it’s called a mickey mouse fish b/c markings on its tail look like mickey mouse’s head!). photos hopefully will come soon!
in other news, i have acquired two phenomenal soundtracks that i would like to share with you. first, the garden state soundtrack. i watched this movie for the first time this weekend (didn’t review it on here yet…perhaps that’ll happen later) and was completely amazed by it. this is in part because of the utterly incredible soundtrack. i mean, coldplay is one of the first songs…you know it’s gonna be a good movie when coldplay is involved. i would highly recommend the garden state soundtrack!

the other soundtrack is from the movie juno (more on this movie later). this soundtrack was hands down one of the “chillest” (is that a word?) compilations of music i have ever encountered! i had heard of none of the artists, but hope to check some of them out in the very near future. bottom line…stop what you’re doing and go find a copy of this soundtrack, then go see this movie (or the other way around…whichever is closer to you currently)!

lastly, yesterday i had my first full intentional cup of coffee! this is a big step for me b/c i need to start drinking the stuff so i don’t fall asleep in class! scott (one of the designers in the office o’ marketing and pr…the one who designed the homepage and thus you must bow in his presence) gave me all the tips for how to make a good first cup of coffee and i must admit that it wasn’t half bad! thanks scott! and thanks to the falcon for letting me buy my first cup!

all it takes is for me to turn my head slightly to the right to see my massive stack of books and i am quickly reminded that we are t-minus 50 hours and counting from the first day of classes. my books this semester range everything from the hebrew bible to biology to the dead sea scrolls to philosophical issues in adventure education. it’s gonna be a diverse semester!
here’s the class list:
trip implementation and evaluation
adventure ed senior seminar
hebrew 2
biblical backgrounds
religions of the world
emergency water safety
biology 1 (continuing at hacc)
as you can see…lots of classes=lots of books=dan might be in too deep!
happy photo friday!
