as a faithful 8 am class taker, i never really understood why convocation chapel “opens the school year.” this is the start of my third year at messiah and i have this running theme where i try to take all 8 am classes so that i don’t have to change my alarm clock from day to day. so at the convocation chapel today when the president declared the school year to be “officially open,” i couldn’t but chuckle in my seat. here’s why: i’ve already had class! does that mean that class doesn’t count? snap! why did i go! haha!
so my junior year is off to a nice start. i had johannine literature with dr. finger this morning. it’s a writing intensive class, so it’ll be a bit more of writing than usual, but i’m optimistic. i had her for new testament lit and really enjoyed her teaching style, so i’m up for another round this semester. for thursday we have to read the gospel of john and mark. that’s right…the whole thing! we’ll see how that goes.
up next is leadership, facilitation, and group dynamics and then programming and trip design. i have them back to back in the same room with the same professor. sounds bad, but it’s for my major, so it’ll be good. dave tanis is the professor and he’s one of my favorite professors. i’ll talk more about him another time. i’m of the persuasion that everyone at messiah should have to take a class with him…but that’s just my opinion.
so yeah…that’s what’s been going on. i’m both excited and nervous to start this chapter in my adventure. i’ll make sure i make time to fill you all in as to what’s been going on with me.
for other messiah students: have a great first day of classes!
for employees or non-students: have a great monday!
