Consider study abroad!

Greetings from the Intercultural office. As you finish up the first month of classes on campus this fall, we also hope that you will consider whether a study abroad experience is in your future as a Messiah College student. As you know, we offer a number of study abroad opportunities. One such opportunity you should know about is the BestSemester programs offered in partnership with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities.

BestSemester programs are offered overseas in Australia, Costa Rica, Oxford, and Uganda.

In addition, there are three professionally-focused programs in the U.S.:
American Studies Program (Washington, D.C.)
Contemporary Music Center (Nashville)

The trees’ colours are changing from green to gold, the air is crisp an prime for delicate drizzles, and familiar sweatshirts are now toward the front of your closet. Fall has arrived folks, and I’m excited. For me, this means Pumpkin-spiced everything, binging Sherlock episodes, and my world smelling like gingersnap cookies. If you need me, make sure you bring some. I encourage you to seize everyday as a new adventure, and challenges as opportunities for you to be a rock star.

Let’s talk about Chapel.

Everyone would have received this in our email: Beginning of semester email (Commuters)

Chapel is not optional, it is mandatory, and should not be taken lightly. As commuters, we were granted grace to only attend 7 chapels per semester as opposed to the 14 that residential students must attend. If there is a conflict (work, internship, family complication, etc.) please notify College Ministries by filing a chapel attendance petition which can be found on your student self-service menu. College Ministries will then notify you whether or not they have accepted your request.

We are still loving our new lounge, thank you to those who signed the “Thank you cards” for President Phipps, Kathie Shafer, and the Frey family. Their hard work deserved notice, and it was important to me that we showed our appreciation. If you have not seen the new lounge, PLEASE VISIT US. It is wonderful, magical, and dreams come true there.

However, please notice that the new signs in the Lounge about the new wall installation of the small conference room that is being designed. This is the space with the white board and television around a table. Its original intent was to be a study space/cubicle area similar to those in the Murray Library. The wall installation will be occurring October 5.

Commuter Invitation Postcard 2017

Hey Messiah College Commuters! After relentless work this summer, the much anticipated NEW Commuter Lounge is finally finished! Bright, spacious, and unique to our needs, our new lounge on the lower level of Mountain View is incomparable to our original hovel in Hoffman. The New Kid

Hi! My name is Cate Cutting and I am the new Commuter Liaison. For the past few years this was a role carried by Justin Stimpson, who had worked so hard as the bridge between college administration and the needs of the commuter student body. He did a wonderful job, and I hope to continue his legacy as we open the new lounge he and I worked so hard to initiate!

About Me

I’m a sophomore commuter who is double majoring in Dance and Social Work.

I also work as the work-study in the Student Involvement and Leadership Program Office.

My other part-time jobs include teaching dance at Reverence Studios and being an in-home hairdresser. I have done both of these for two years.

I can be easily persuaded by chocolate and/or British TV shows.

If you should ever need me, my email is
