safetyNational Safety Month!

It’s the final week of National Campus Safety Awareness month. Today we would like for you to consider the kind of community member you are- how do you actively respect and care for those around you? One way we can promote safety in the Messiah College community is by being good neighbors and by looking out for the best interests of those around us.

We are excited to announce we have added another Pizza with Professionals to our calendar: AT&T!

Come join us on Thursday, October 5th from Noon-1 pm in Parmer Cinema to hear from Dan Blemings ’93, Global Lifecycle Product Manager for AT&T’s multi-billion dollar Ethernet products used by businesses for data networking.

Consider study abroad!

Greetings from the Intercultural office. As you finish up the first month of classes on campus this fall, we also hope that you will consider whether a study abroad experience is in your future as a Messiah College student. As you know, we offer a number of study abroad opportunities. One such opportunity you should know about is the BestSemester programs offered in partnership with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities.

These programs are Christ-centered, provide culturally-immersive experiential learning, and enable you to study abroad with students from other Christian colleges. Through BestSemester you’ll not only learn a new culture but develop lasting friendships and grow in your faith in the process.

BestSemester programs are offered overseas in Australia, Costa Rica, Oxford, and Uganda.

In addition, there are three professionally-focused programs in the U.S.:
American Studies Program (Washington, D.C.)
Contemporary Music Center (Nashville)
Los Angeles Film Studies Center

Learn more about all of these programs at www.messiah.edu/abroad or come visit us in the Intercultural Office to learn more about BestSemester programs as well as many other study abroad opportunities that are available. To make an appointment, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0949afad2ba75-advising and find a time that works for you!

We look forward to seeing you!

Local Shuttle Drivers Wanted.  If you need a job, please read!

Seize the Day

The trees’ colours are changing from green to gold, the air is crisp an prime for delicate drizzles, and familiar sweatshirts are now toward the front of your closet. Fall has arrived folks, and I’m excited. For me, this means Pumpkin-spiced everything, binging Sherlock episodes, and my world smelling like gingersnap cookies. If you need me, make sure you bring some. I encourage you to seize everyday as a new adventure, and challenges as opportunities for you to be a rock star.

Let’s talk about Chapel.

Everyone would have received this in our email: Beginning of semester email (Commuters)

Image result for messiah college chapel

Chapel is not optional, it is mandatory, and should not be taken lightly. As commuters, we were granted grace to only attend 7 chapels per semester as opposed to the 14 that residential students must attend. If there is a conflict (work, internship, family complication, etc.) please notify College Ministries by filing a chapel attendance petition which can be found on your student self-service menu. College Ministries will then notify you whether or not they have accepted your request.

We are still loving our new lounge, thank you to those who signed the “Thank you cards” for President Phipps, Kathie Shafer, and the Frey family. Their hard work deserved notice, and it was important to me that we showed our appreciation. If you have not seen the new lounge, PLEASE VISIT US. It is wonderful, magical, and dreams come true there.

However, please notice that the new signs in the Lounge about the new wall installation of the small conference room that is being designed. This is the space with the white board and television around a table. Its original intent was to be a study space/cubicle area similar to those in the Murray Library. The wall installation will be occurring October 5.
