Yes. Chapel at Messiah College is a central expression of our identity as a community of Christians with a deep commitment to spiritual growth and academic excellence. Chapel is a required opportunity for exposure to forms of worship, various speakers and ideas which are put together with the intention of affirming our common commitments while they both reflect and challenge individual preferences in style. Though we hope that students will be challenged in their faith through chapel, we realize that spiritual nurture is ultimately a function of each person’s will, preference and responsibility and cannot be subject to requirements. Chapel is required as a common experience. Spiritual nurture is each student’s own responsibility.

Messiah offers a variety of different chapel experiences. Common Chapels, for the entire student body, are held in Brubaker Auditorium on Tuesday and a few Thursday mornings. Elective Chapels, which offer students a choice between liturgical worship, Bible teaching, praise and worship, mission awareness, and more, are held on the remaining Thursday mornings at the regular chapel hour. Alternate Chapels are services held at other times and planned by various student organizations and special interest groups.

The relaxed European mindset combined with the vitality of a thriving metropolis and the history that can be plainly seen made Athens an amazing place to study.

As a history minor being able to see many of the sites I had only read about was a tremendous asset to my education. It’s one thing to study the oracles, and assembly of Athens and completely another to stand in Delphi or in front of the Parthenon and really experience it.” - Sarah Plumadore ‘10

Study in the shadow of the ancient Acropolis while participating in BCA’s program in Athens, Greece. Investigate the rich heritage of Greece by living in a former center of ancient Greek culture and civilization. 3,000 years old, Athens contains ancient temple ruins along with beautiful streets, museums, markets, and modern cafes. The program takes students to historically significant sites such as Delphi, Corinth, Mycenae, Epidaurus, Naphleon, and Sparta. Among the wide class selection available at City University, favorite courses students have taken in the past include Classical Greek Art, Overview of the European Union, Photojournalism, Macroeconomics, and World Literature. Students also study the Modern Greek language in order to interact with their surrounding culture.

Choosing a college major is an important decision to make, and often times there’s anxiety about making the “right” decision. Understanding the relationship between major and career options is critical. In some cases, career fields demand a specific academic path. For example, teachers are expected to have an education degree, nurses, a nursing degree, accountants, an accounting degree, and so on. In most cases, however, the relationship is not so clear cut. A major opens the doorway to many career possibilities, but it’s up to you to make the most of your experience both in and out of the classroom.

Ultimately, your academic major is just one factor in determining your future career path and job prospects. Other factors include: your academic transcript, choice of coursework, out-of-classroom activities, skills acquired through related experience, and personal fit. For more information about choosing a Major, we encourage you to read Choosing A Major (pdf).
