New Mexico

This is our 2nd full day in New Mexico and we’ve managed to stay very busy. Yesterday we finished up our interviews. Christina interviewed Ms. Wood, a middle school counselor in Gallup, NM. She talked to us about her profession and gave us a tour of the school. It was interesting to get a different perspective, other than a teacher’s perspective, on the student body. Then we traveled to Albuquerque for the rest of the day. Christine had her interview with Stephanie Poston, a marketing and PR entrepreneur. She started her own company, Poston and Associatiates, and loves the flexibility of working for herself. She offered some input on when to go to grad school, and how to balance work and family life. She was very knowledgable and interesting to interact with.
After the inteviews were over, we took in the sights of Albuquerque for the night. First we went to Old Town to have a Mexican dinner and do a little shopping. Old Town had cute little boutique shops, Native American vendors, and really good food! After Old Town we did a little more shopping and drove around the city, taking in all the sights. Finally we headed back to Gallup for a good night’s rest.
Today we shopped, ate, played with small children, and picked up trash. The lady we are staying with is babysitting twin 2 year olds and we had the priveledge of trying to control them. We also took them out to lunch for some authentic Navajo Tacos (well, the twins had chicken nuggets and the adults had tacos). Let’s just say, twin 2 year olds out to eat at a restaurant is an eventful exprience. After lunch we went to a local flea market and bought some pretty jewelry. This afternoon we cleaned up trash at the local park as a way to pay back the community for letting us stay at the church for free. Tonight we’re planning to make spaghetti dinner for Liz (the lady we’re staying with), hang out, teach Kate to play Dutch Blitz, and get organized to head back East tomorrow! It’s crazy that we have to start the drive home so soon!
We’re not sure when/if we’ll be able to post again, but our tentative plan is to drive through Nashville so we may be able to post while we’re there. If not, then we are excited to see everyone from back home and we plan to be back in PA late Tuesday afternoon. Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend!
